Picking.....something other than our noses hehe

We've gone picking the last couple of weeks for Blueberries and raspberries.. there's nothing better than picking your own fruit!

Around here we don't have as many pick your own farms as we did back in the seacoast area, but the ones we do have are breathtakingly beautiful!

The rest of our summer has been pretty wet and rainy and cold. I hope the end of the summer makes up for it, because we're getting a bit stir crazy!

Ps the picture of the view of the mountains, was taken at the top of an old dirt road in my town, that is the valley we live in :)

Our 4th of July

My hometown celebrates the 4th of July always the weekend after. I've heard this is because they get the fireworks at a discounted rate which allows the small town budget to do a bigger town show.

It doesn't really matter though, when you set fireworks off in a valley shaped like a bowl... they resonate for miles and the boom shakes you to your core. It becomes more than a noise, it's a physical vibration...and its awesome!

We're lucky also, in that we live on a side road across from the field they set them off in, so we don't even have to leave the back yard!
Saturday just before they started, of course the rain finally hit... but our small town wasn't deterred, they set them off in the pouring rain and it was awesome.

We dragged our chairs out into the field with a beach umbrella, a regular umbrella and a kiddie pool to hide under... (there may or may not have been alcohol involved hehe)

We hooted, we hollered and we had a fabulously redneck time hehehe

The many faces of Rowan

My mother has said since Rowan was born that she speaks with her face. And its so true. You can always read exactly what she's thinking directly in her expressions.... and some of them, are quite funny.

Welcoming a new addition

Of the hamster persuasion.

Rowan and I visited the large pet shop in town yesterday and as we entered the rodent room, she watched a little girl picking out a new pet hamster.

She looked up at me with her big pleading blue eyes and begged.."Mama, can I have a hamster.... PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I couldn't say know.. she was so sincere and pleading..... We ran over to Kmart first to buy a cage, and she stopped every stranger we passed to let them know she was getting a hamster.. she was sooooooo excited.

She then told the poor cashier about her hamster for 5 minutes straight...

Once we got back to the pet store, we held almost every hamster there to find the gentlest one, and came home with Sally.. yup, another flippin Sally.... lol

A day in the life.....

In pictures, because Rowan doesn't allow me to sit long enough to write much.
