Ripple Goodness

I have been hugely inspired by these two blogs and thier ripply goodness (ripple afghans)

Kars Down Home Bliss

With the spring approaching, I felt the need to add some color to my world...and thus have started my own ripple ghan... I love it already... in fact we just finished making out.

Quiet

Its been a busy little weekend. Yesterday I drove up north, to the Upper Valley area to attend a birthday party for my God son. It was interesting as Rowan was the only girl and everyone else was 5 and she is only 3.

It was a long drive up highway 89. which is boring and sparse... with nothing but trees and mountains to break up the monotony. 70 miles of them.

The Upper Valley is the place we are moving to in June. I grew up there. But I've now lived in the seacoast area for 12 years, longer than I lived there which seems so strange to me now. But the seacoast has become my home.

The Upper Valley feels familiar to me, but not the same. Like a familiar taste in my mouth that I can not place. I struggled with those feelings during the long drive, because I know soon, it will be my home again.

The two places (seacoast and upper valley) are night and day. The seacoast area is obviously wealthy, and well kept with expensive boutiques and clean well maintained shopping centers.

The upper valley is not. It's a poorer area I guess you could say. But not dreadfully poor. There's just a different mentality up there. Life isn't about having Pier One bookshelves or matching dinner ware. Its about country life. Gardens. Mountains. Fishing in streams freezing cold from the mountain snow run off. Hunting. Moose crossing signs. Hiking. Dirt track race cars show.

Its slow. Quiet. Relaxing yet frightening in its solitude.

Here where I live, in the town of Rochester, there are 30,000 people. A modest population for a city, but large no less when you consider the town I'm moving too has just over 1000 people.

Driving down 89 I felt the solitude pressing in upon me. Almost suffocating. You could drive miles before you saw a house.... it was nothing but trees in the muted tans brown and ever green colors of a cold winter. The awesome power of the emptiness truly makes you feel very very small.

Yet it if you allow it to seep into your bones, you eventually start to feel the peace that this type of emptiness brings. No cars honking, no traffic, no police sirens whaling by, no noise.

Just silence, nature.... quiet....

Astigmatism

I have astigmatism. For those of you who don't know, that means my eyes are football shaped instead of round. The more football shaped they get the worse your vision gets, and its an over all deficit.. not just near or far sighted.

Anyhoo, the point of educating you on that boring topic is that I just picked up my new contacts. I've worn glasses for the last year because the brand of contacts I got last year were horrid and I couldn't' wear them.

I'm back to my old brand now, and excited to be a non glasses wearer again. However, now that I have contacts, my computer screen doesn't look like a square. Its looks like an Isosceles trapezoid. How's that for some high school geometry for you? (I feel so flippin smart right now).

Astigmatism can make things look oddly shaped, and it takes the brain a while to adjust and correct this when wearing torric lenses.

My point is.. I'm glad to get out from behind my glasses because they make me feel claustrophobic, but damn if this shape isn't tripping me the F out!

Procrastinaton Nation

I am a procrastinator.

I won't lie.

That old addage, don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.. is sooooo not me.

I'm only like that with certain things however, and mainly those things revolve making phone calls.

I hate the phone!

Today however, I called a gazzilion people I needed to call, and now I sit here with a huge sense of satisfaction, and I wonder why I haven't done this sooner... what a releief!

Don't expect me to change though.

A little congratulations is in order

Its been three day snow, that Rowan has given up her Nuk addiction. Barney and I are both so impressed with how easy the transition was and how well she has proved herself to be a big girl.

Therefore, we splurged and got her a little treat... only a tiny splurge mind you, I'm a frugal girl, and I only shop the clearance section.

This face isn't a face of boredom, that's what she looks likes during intense times of concentration, which means she really really likes this toy. haha
